The patch knife is primarily used to cut patches of cloth or leather to be wrapped around the rifle ball before loading it into the muzzleloader. Our forefathers carried knives like these with them everywhere so they were always prepared to take the shot.
This patch knife is a replica of the very same knives frontier explorers, trappers, and pioneers used. The quality wood handle surrounds a 3" solid stainless steel blade.
The blade has a unique feature known as a "Spanish notch." This notch was traditionally used as a tool to strip sinew and repair rope. It could also be used as a guide for blade sharpening. In addition it serves as a stress relief point during use.
The 4-1/2" quality scabbard features attractive patterns embossed into the leather, with leather lace stitching and a hand stitched belt loop to attach to your belt, pack, or possibles bag.
