It is not often you are offered the chance to craft your very own piece of history. These Scrimshaw Knife Kits allow you to recreate the classic whaling folk art of the 1800s. Customize your very own knife using this complete kit for an authentic looking heirloom.
During the 1700s and 1800s sailors often spent their free time carving designs and artwork into whale teeth and bones using tools such as sail needles or nails. After etching the artwork into the bone they would rub tobacco juice or lamp black onto the surface to provide contrast and detail to the artwork. This kit includes a natural bone-handled pocket knife, steel point scribe, honing stone, India ink, and more. You'll have everything you need to replicate this time-honored art form to create a personalized knife.
Choose from a Trapper model (4-1/8" closed) or Lock-back model (3-5/8" closed). Complete instructions and sample graphics are included. Recommended for ages 16 & up.
